The article, titled “International initiatives for the study of the human brain: EBRAINS and its Spanish node”, provides an overview of the main brain initiatives that have emerged around the world in the 21st century, with a focus on EBRAINS, the digital infrastructure for brain research.

The authors highlight the increasing prevalence of mental and neurological health disorders across the globe, and how, in response, EBRAINS has taken steps to provide technological support to researchers in clinical contexts. Tools such as The Virtual Brain, the Medical Informatics Platform, and HealthDataCloud are listed as examples.

The article also provides insights into the Spanish National Node of EBRAINS. The Node is coordinated by the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and is comprised of thirteen institutions from the private and public sector. The authors describe the services that are offered to the scientific community by UPM, Bitbrain, and August Pi i Sunyer Biomedical Research Institute through the EBRAINS Spanish Node.
