EBRAINS welcomes the Valencia Biomedical Research Foundation - Príncipe Felipe Research Centre as new associate member

The membership will give the Valencia Biomedical Research Foundation – Príncipe Felipe Research Centre (CIPF) the opportunity to co-design future iterations of EBRAINS’ cutting-edge tools and services. These state-of-the-art capabilities include an extensive range of brain data sets, a multilevel brain atlas, advanced modelling and simulation tools, and access to high-performance computing resources and robotics and neuromorphic platforms. Together, these resources support European researchers in addressing major challenges in brain health.
The Valencia Biomedical Research Centre – Príncipe Felipe Research Centre (CIPF) is a state-of-the-art biomedical institute located in Valencia Spain and supported by the regional government. Since 2005, the CIPF’s vanguard building has formed part of the City of Arts and Sciences.
The mission of the CIPF is to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of human disease and apply this knowledge to the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic tools. CIPF investigators are firmly committed to improving the lives of patients through the translation of laboratory discoveries to the clinical setting. The CIPF has developed cutting-edge infrastructure and an ambitious research program with the aim of being a competitive partner in European science. The programs of Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, Neurological Diseases, and Metabolic Disorders clearly align the CIPF with the major human health challenges of the Spanish health system and the priorities of the new Horizon Europe program.

CIPF Director, Deborah Burks, emphasized the importance of this new collaboration:
“CIPF’s strategic vision is to remain at the forefront of national and international biomedical research and therapeutics development, bridging the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications for patient benefit. Joining EBRAINS will allow us to foster synergies by sharing data, knowledge and technologies to advance in brain research and medicine. This new, large-scale collaborations within Europe and worldwide play a key role to creating synergies based on the shared use of data and instruments. They thus take account of the great dynamism in research. The change has led to important advances and opens up new opportunities to advance brain research, medicine and collaborate in the development of innovative brain-inspired technologies”.
She added:
“The science of the brain requires the combination of high-quality research, data integration and multidisciplinary large-scale collaboration as pioneered in Europe’s Human Brain Project and, in this context, CIPF team and know-how have a huge potential in brain research, artificial intelligence, including machine learning and deep learning therefore this new collaborative approach has many opportunities and challenges we must face together as part of future neuroscience research”.
Joint-CEO of EBRAINS, Philippe Vernier, welcomed CIPF as an associate member at EBRAINS:
“We are delighted to welcome the Valencia Biomedical Research Foundation – Príncipe Felipe Research Centre as an associate member at EBRAINS. The centre brings with it a wealth of knowledge related to the cellular and molecular mechanisms of human disease, as well as a strong dedication to improving the lives of patients.”
