(27-29 November 2024) 1st ESD Hackathon
The aim of the EBRAINS Software Distribution (ESD) is to integrate EBRAINS tools and workflows in order to create a unified software ecosystem that facilitates the use, development, and deployment of scientific software for reproducible and scalable environments. The ESD has been designed for use in interactive and high-performance computing applications, and will soon facilitate service deployments. A container-packaged version will enable end users to leverage the EBRAINS ecosystem on their laptops, workstations, or their HPC system of choice.
It will take place Wed–Fri (27 - 29 November 2024), at the European Institute for Neuromorphic Computing (EINC) in Heidelberg, Germany.
Event Details:
Date: Wednesday (2024-11-27) – Friday (2024-11-29)
Location: EINC, Im Neuenheimer Feld 225a, D-69120 Heidelberg, Germany (more venue details here in the agenda page).
Format: Hackathon (on-site) with introductory talks
Remote Access: Limited availability for joining via Zoom (for talks)
This 3-day event is a unique opportunity for developers, researchers, and enthusiasts to collaborate on extending and improving the EBRAINS Software Distribution.
Participants will engage in hands-on sessions and discussions focusing on various topics, including:
Extending the ESD — new tools
Integration — creating new packages with structured dependencies
Testing — verifying usability and facilitating tool maintenance
Link to EBRAINS Software Quality efforts
Showcasing the ESD — new workflows
Integration — explicit tracking of workflow dependencies
Testing — inter-tool & service compatibility checking
Inspiration — public demo workflows to inspire scientists
Customizing the ESD — specific deployments
Performance — HPC and other deployments
Services — deploying and running ESD-related services from an ESD-hosted environment
Specialization — targeting individual use cases
The hackathon offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the ESD and the EBRAINS software ecosystem in general, while also facilitating networking with like-minded individuals and knowledge sharing.
We encourage interested parties to take advantage of the opportunity to become involved in the evolution of EBRAINS Software Distribution.
