Hippocampus Hub
The Hippocampus Hub provides an online, interoperable environment dedicated to the construction of biophysically and morphologically accurate hippocampal neuron models. Its primary objective is to streamline the model-building process by integrating heterogeneous data—such as electrophysiological recordings, neuronal morphologies, and model components—collected from multiple open scientific repositories into a unified workflow.
A key feature of the portal is its click-and-collect mechanism, similar to filling an online shopping cart, which allows researchers to intuitively select and assemble the relevant datasets required for model development, from public, online, repositories such as the EBRAINS KG, NEUROMORPHO.ORG, MODELDB.SCIENCE, HIPPOCAMPOME.ORG. This design significantly reduces the technical barriers associated with retrieving, extracting, and organizing model-related information.
The model building workflow is completed with an automated parameter optimization process provided by the EBRAINS NeuroFeatureExtract and Hodgkin-Huxley Neuron Builder that leverage high-performance computing resources provided through EBRAINS and, additionally, offer a model simulation framework. These tools enable users to refine their models and generate biologically realistic neuronal activity without needing local computational infrastructure.
Overall, the objective of the Hippocampus Hub is to enhance reproducibility, accessibility, and interoperability in hippocampal cell modeling, thereby supporting a broader scientific community in developing robust, data-driven neuron models.
