The Virtual Brain Hub

The Virtual Brain Hub, hosted by INS at Aix-Marseille University, integrates cutting edge computational neuroscience with multimodal neuroimaging to create personalized whole brain models, termed Virtual Brain Twins (VBTs), reducing risk and advancing precision medicine. The VBT process at the Hub incorporates neuroimaging workflows that (a) build whole-brain connectivity from T1w MRI (b) functional data features from fMRI, EEG & MEG (c) include state of the art dynamical models of neural activity and (d) perform high performance simulation and inference of model parameters using modern ML frameworks. The combination of these enables in-silico optimization of therapeutic strategies such as deep brain or non-invasive electric stimulation. The Hub is applying this technology to build subject or patient specific VBTs for cohorts of data for complex disorders like epilepsy, Alzheimer's or Parkinson's disease. Once built, VBTs enable mechanistic explanations for inter-subject variability, pathological neurological conditions and a robust foundation for building decision-support tools. The Hub is available to help potential users to (a) build new VBTs oriented towards an established dataset or acquisition protocol, (b) look at novel modelling or inference techniques at the whole brain level and (c) support the execution of workflows on computational infrastructure.
