Overview

The EBRAINS Lithuania National Node was established in June 2025, and unites 4 partner institutions: 

• Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU)
  • The leading institution of higher education in medicine and biomedical sciences in Lithuania. The Neuroscience Institute constitutes a core center of research in fundamental, translational and clinical neuroscience at LSMU, and has tight cooperation with the LSMU Hospital Kauno klinikos.
• Hospital of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kauno klinikos
  • The largest and most advanced healthcare institution in the region of Baltic States. Specialized brain health units -  Department of Neurosurgery, Department of Neurology, Department of Psychiatry, Department of Radiology, Nuclear Medicine Research Center – are dedicated to advance understanding, diagnosis and treatment of brain disorders through interdisciplinary research and cutting-edge technologies.
• Kaunas University of Technology (KTU)
  • The technical university offering strong competencies in biomedical engineering and technological innovation. KTU is represented by two of its institutes: the Biomedical Engineering Institute with the expertise in multimodal digital biomarkers of the nervous system, and the Health Telematics Science Institute working on the brain autoregulation monitoring during surgery and after traumatic injuries.
• Vytautas Magnus University (VMU)
  • The interdisciplinary university that integrates social, humanities, natural, and technological sciences.

The scientific focus of EBRAINS Lithuania focuses on brain modeling and simulation, fundamental and clinical translational neuroscience, artificial intelligence in neuroscience and brain medicine, advanced brain-related technologies, including personalised digital brain models and neurotechnology for brain disease diagnosis and treatment.
