Data Sharing Process
How to integrate and share your data
The EBRAINS curation process ensures that the data we receive for publication are properly annotated and meet the necessary data sharing and reuse standards. By offering this service, EBRAINS aims to increase the visibility of scientific work and support the advancement of neuroscience research.
Data Curation Process
- Request curation: To get started, fill out our curation request form to provide basic information about the data you wish to share. For data originating from animals or humans, we also perform an ethics and regulatory compliance check. You will be notified of acceptance within 10 days after your submission.
- Prepare the data:
- Make sure that the data are structured consistently. If possible, use a community standard such as BIDS.
Find more information about standards here - You may choose to upload your data to our EBRAINS long-term storage, or link it from elsewhere. Please note that for sharing sensitive human data, secure storage systems are mandated by law, available via our Trusted Research Environments (no direct upload to EBRAINS storage).
Access Trusted Research Environments
- Make sure that the data are structured consistently. If possible, use a community standard such as BIDS.
Deliver metadata according to the openMINDS metadata framework.
Use our interactive web formor generate and submit metadata programmatically.
- Write a data descriptor outlining data acquisition and processing methods, repository contents, formats and software related to your data. This document is essential for the interpretation and re-use of the data. A journal paper, if centered on the data, may replace the EBRAINS data descriptor.
Publication: Once integrated and approved, your data receives a permanent identifier (DOI), and the metadata are published via the EBRAINS Knowledge Graph.
