EBRAINS Hackathon 2025 takes place in Athens

The EBRAINS Hackathon took place from 5-7 November 2025 in Athens, bringing together developers, service maintainers, and EBRAINS experts for three days of hands-on collaboration and technical discussions around the EBRAINS software ecosystem.

This year’s event served as the second hackathon dedicated to the EBRAINS Software Distribution (ESD) and simultaneously as a focused workshop on the integration of scientific workflows and services in EBRAINS.

Throughout the main track, participants focused on ongoing improvements to the ESD, including the build and deployment process, integration with Dedal, containerisation, HPC-specific optimised deployments, and CI testing on HPC systems. Discussions also covered testing and quality assurance, performance-oriented benchmark tests, and strategies for building ESD subsets and extensions to support workflows, service deployments, and specialised environments.

In parallel, dedicated discussions and meetings addressed topics such as the EBRAINS Design System, multi-site workflows, architecture coordination, and service catalogue development, offering space for teams across EBRAINS to exchange insights and align efforts.

The final day was entirely dedicated to scientific workflows, covering execution on the EBRAINS infrastructure, workflow publication and provenance, distributed and federated workflows, and planning for future development.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in Athens and contributed to the continued evolution of the EBRAINS software and workflow ecosystem!
