EBRAINS joins the Second Annual EDIC Gathering in Brussels

Thomas Skordas, Deputy Director-General of DG CONNECT, opens the Second Annual EDIC Gathering.

On 30 September 2026, EBRAINS participated in the Second Annual EDIC Gathering, organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CONNECT) in Brussels.

Prof. Philippe Vernier, Joint CEO of EBRAINS, and Alexandros Iakovidis, Senior Project Manager, joined representatives of established European Digital Infrastructure Consortia (EDICs) and initiatives currently preparing to become EDICs.

Following opening remarks by Thomas Skordas, Deputy Director-General of DG CONNECT, the morning sessions focused on the impact of existing EDICs, presented new initiatives and discussed the role of EDICs in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.

In the afternoon, the EDIC Community of Practice brought participants together to explore potential synergies and to pair established and emerging EDICs.

For EBRAINS, the Gathering provided an opportunity to learn from the experience of other EDICs, strengthen connections across the community and exchange with other initiatives in the health and digital research landscape, including EUCAIM, the Genome EDIC and TEF-Health. EBRAINS also shared progress towards establishing its own EDIC and explored potential areas for future cooperation.
