EBRAINS meets the Latin American computational neuroscience community at LASCON X
Several leading EBRAINS scientists, including EBRAINS Chief Science Officer Prof. Viktor Jirsa, gave three-part presentations on brain modelling using EBRAINS from 27-29 January at the Latin American School on Computational Neuroscience in São Paulo, Brazil.
LASCON 2026 offered a comprehensive and immersive four-week program that spanned multiple scales of brain modelling, from biophysically detailed single neurons to large-scale neural networks and theoretical frameworks of brain function and dysfunction.
Participants explored cutting-edge topics including extracellular field modelling, synaptic and structural plasticity, brain disease and brain state modelling, artificial intelligence, criticality in brain dynamics, consciousness, and brain–machine interface.
EBRAINS Chief Science Officer Prof. Viktor Jirsa gave a three-part presentation on modelling neurological disorders using EBRAINS. Other EBRAINS scientists teaching at LASCON 2026 included Profs. Alain Destexhe, Gaute Einevoll, Sonja Grün, Hans Ekkehard Plesser, Marja-Leena Linne and Markus Diesmann.
The school welcomed 66 participants, reflecting a growing interest in EBRAINS in Latin America, where there are more than 300 EBRAINS account holders across 86 institutions in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay.
“LASCON X was an excellent opportunity to interact with the computational neuroscience community in Latin America”, said Prof. Jirsa. “We were delighted to see that there is great interest in EBRAINS tools for modelling, simulation, and analysis.”
