EBRAINS Publishes Community Contributions for the Roadmap 2026-2036 ahead of the Symposium in Munich

EBRAINS has released the Roadmap 2026–2036 community contributions ahead of the Strategy Symposium taking place in Munich on 21-22 May 2026.

The published volume brings together 139 accepted proposals from across 27 countries and the wider European digital neuroscience community, as a result of a broad bottom-up consultation launched in November 2025.

The proposals focus on science that cannot be done elsewhere — projects, capabilities, or collaborations uniquely enabled by EBRAINS’ data, models, compute, and federated ecosystem.

Topically, the contributions reflect the broad scope of digital neuroscience, spanning brain digital twins and computational psychiatry, neuromorphic computing, brain-machine interfaces and open science. Together, these contributions explore the priorities that shape European digital neuroscience over the coming decade.

The proposals are organised around five strategic themes concerning science and technological translation. Click on the theme to download the list of proposals grouped under that theme:

· How does brain function emerge from its multiscale architecture?

· How do we build digital brain twins that capture disease mechanisms well enough to guide intervention?

· How do computation, AI, and intelligent infrastructure shape what we can learn about the brain —and what brains can teach machines?

· How do we translate digital brain science into clinical practice and technological innovation?

· How do we ensure the sustainability, accessibility, and societal responsibility of brain research infrastructure?

The full set of proposals can now be accessed ahead of the meeting, enabling an informed discussion in Munich. The contributions will serve as the primary input to the Symposium debates and to the development of the condensed EBRAINS Roadmap 2026-2036.

The publication of all accepted contributions in open access reflects EBRAINS’ commitment to transparency, community participation, and the development of an interoperable European neuroscience ecosystem.

About the EBRAINS Roadmap Symposium

The EBRAINS Roadmap Symposium will take place from 21-22 May at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the LMU University Hospital in Munich.

Contributions to the EBRAINS 10-Year Roadmap 2026-2036 will be discussed and debated during the Symposium. The agenda is based on thematic clustering of accepted contributions by the EBRAINS Roadmap review group. Click here to find out more.
