EBRAINS, the ‘one-stop-shop’ offering scientists the most advanced tools and services for brain research, is pleased to announce that it has hit a major milestone of 30 members.

The EBRAINS AISBL was founded in Brussels in 2019 as an international non-profit association. Its objective is to promote research and innovation in the field of brain science, in particular through the creation and operation of EBRAINS, a European-led, cutting-edge, ICT-based scientific and medical research infrastructure.

“EBRAINS is strong by the strength of its members. It is excellent news that we now have in our ranks 30 full and associate members, counting among them some of Europe’s leading research institutions and universities."

Paweł Świeboda
CEO of EBRAINS

The association aims to further co-develop the tools and services provided by its research infrastructure, making it adaptable and flexible by catalysing the community effort. EBRAINS acts as a Central Hub that coordinates a pan-European distributed network of services delivered through National Nodes.

Each National Node is in principle led by one institution with the status of a Full Member. The other National Node partners (e.g. legal entities such as universities, research institutes, or private organisations) are strongly encouraged to become Associate Members of the AISBL.

Here’s what some of our members had to say about joining:

“EBRAINS is a further development of the EU flagship the Human Brain Project, which started in 2013 with Karolinska Institutet as one of the initiators (...) It is important that we now reap the fruits of that work and at the same time help build the future of European infrastructure for brain simulation and neuroinformatics.”

"We are proud to be a member of the EBRAINS family. Digital Neuroscience is the most promising avenue nowadays to address pressing questions in brain health, notably epilepsy, mental health and neurodegeneration. As we want to go far with our ambitions, we need to go together. The EBRAINS ecosystem is the way of doing so."

“We are proud to be an associate member of EBRAINS AISBL, and as such to be a key player in the future of brain research.”
