Erice 2025 – 10 Years of Modelling the Brain: Digital Twins and Clinical Frontiers

Sicily 4597041 1920

'A Decade of Discovery: The Erice Camillo Golgi School – Modelling the Brain from Neurons to Large Scale Signals and Digital Twins in Health and Disease' is an advanced neuroscience course organised on 2-7 December 2025 in Erice, Italy by the International School of Brain Cells and Circuits “Camillo Golgi”.

The 2025 course marks ten years of activity dedicated to the legacy of Camillo Golgi. This year’s edition will reflect on the School’s 10-year journey and explore the current state of brain modelling and its dynamics. The programme includes cutting-edge topics in modern Neuroscience, such as multiscale computational modelling, a new powerful approach for understanding the brain that has recently been supported by international initiatives like the Human Brain Project and EBRAINS.

Over the years, the School of Brain Cells and Circuits has strengthened a partnership with EBRAINS, whose Research Infrastructure offers an ideal ecosystem for collaborations and sharing of data and tools. The school is now supported by the EBRAINS training programme and during this week participants will be able to explore the capacity offered by the EBRAINS Research Infrastructure, and to learn about the development of The Virtual Brain and digital brain twins towards clinical applications.

This year, we will continue to dig deep into the brain digital twin. Key questions will guide this year’s discussions, including:

  • What are the cornerstones of a virtual brain?

  • What can a virtual brain give to medicine? Use cases will lead discussion on unmet clinical needs (i.e. in pathologies such as epilepsy, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis)

  • What are we missing in the scaffold of the brain digital twin?

  • How can we personalise it in a way to maximise benefit for the single patient?

  • How can we democratise this powerful technology to reach everyone?

This course in Erice offers a unique opportunity for young researchers and leading scientists to discuss advances in brain modelling, and shape future directions. Through keynote lectures, poster lightning talks, and networking, participants will engage in meaningful exchange and collaboration. More than just a meeting, it is a celebration of neuroscience, innovation, and community - an inspiring reason to join us in Sicily this December.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Applications for attending the course must be sent via the registration form

Pre-registration is mandatory.

The course fee includes registration, accommodation and meals and can be confirmed upon inquiries.

Abstract submission (for poster presentation only) is also possible. Abstracts should be submitted by the deadline of 15 November 2025 at 18.00 (Central European Time), following the abstracts guidelines. For inquiries, please contact: erice.golgi@gmail.com

The School operates also in synergy with another EBRAINS School - EITN. The EITN EBRAINS Fall School offers the possibility to dive deeper into the computational dimension of virtual brain modelling, while in Erice we will foster in depth discussions on fundamental neuroscience and clinical issues.
